Episode 8: Earth Day

Don’t Destroy, Create!

I wrote this song, Don’t Destroy, Create!, for Earth Day 2020 and also for my son. Last year was a rough one for Ezra and myself, considering all the normal duties and pressures of a parent child relationship but then also adding the extra stress from the unknown of the pandemic. I found myself being upset with him destroying something throughout our apartment, (his sister’s paintings, my recording sessions etc.). I could sense a collective anger or anxiety really boiling up in the house.

Then I realized, when he was being free to just create an art piece (far upper left of the screen is an Ezra original) or make noise (which we have a few dozen unreleased original songs of his in my computer of really cool David Byrne-esqe ramblings) there was a sense of calm and a united feeling between us. SO, I wrote this for him and also in response to my own relationship with this Earth and the freedom and joy I get when I’m participating in something constructive and creative.

When he found out I was using this song, he volunteered himself to sing. Which I could not refuse!
